Chris Burkard film poster

Chris Burkard Film poster Design.

Project Overview

I had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned photographer Chris Burkard on a film poster for his bike trip in Iceland. The assignment was to capture the raw, cold, and exposed nature of the journey through the stunning landscapes of Iceland.

The goal was to create a visually striking poster that conveyed the intense emotions and unique atmosphere of the Icelandic adventure. Through careful selection of imagery, color palette, and design elements, the poster aimed to encapsulate the spirit of the trip, reflecting both the beauty and the harshness of the Icelandic environment.

This project was a wonderful chance to blend my passion for art and adventure, resulting in a piece that resonated deeply with the essence of the journey.

Sketch

I wanted to convey the vastness of the Icelandic landscape and the challenging conditions of the bike trip. The sketch illustrates three bikers traversing the expansive terrain, emphasizing the enormity of the environment. The aim was to make the bikers appear small and vulnerable compared to the vast, empty landscape, highlighting the raw and unforgiving nature of Iceland.

Rough Color

I chose cooler tones to reflect Iceland’s cold, rugged climate. A slightly yellowish white brings warmth from the sun, balancing the palette. Keeping the colors minimal ensures the design is recognizable and balanced. The darkest color highlights the mountain and text, creating a strong focal point for the poster.

Final Effects

I wanted to capture the feeling of what it must have been like for Chris and his team. I can imagine that it was breathtakingly beautiful but at the same time frigid and rough. I tried to strike a peaceful balance between the two. Bringing radiating light and rougher textures to give it that cold Iceland feel
